Allen donate Optimist to Class Association Allen donate Optimist to Class Association

Continuing with the ‘investing in the future’ theme, which Allen have been promoting this year, they are delighted to be involved with the young sailors at the start of their dinghy sailing journey by donating a brand new Optimist to be raffled at this year’s Nationals event taking place at WPNSA and starting on Saturday the 2nd August 2014.

Allen Brothers was founded long before any of today’s Optimist sailors started sailing and has been producing high-performance dinghy hardware at their factory in Essex for longer than their parents can probably remember! Allen’s equipment is used at every end of the dinghy sailing spectrum, in sailing-school workhorses to Olympic racers. Allen recognise that the next generation is the future of dinghy sailing, and therefore are pleased to donate the limited edition Optimist (specially built by Winner for the 2014 Dinghy Show) to IOCA. The beneficiaries of the proceeds of the raffle will be shared between the John Merricks Trust, the Andrew Simpson Foundation, the Eric Twiname Trust and IOCA, all of whom are supporting and encouraging youth sailing.

The Optimist will be on show in the hanger during the event and raffle tickets will be available to purchase from the IOCA shop. The prize draw will take place on Friday afternoon, before the prize giving. "We are delighted with the generosity of Allen Brothers and hope the proceeds can promote more sailing. We have over 440 sailors attending the Optimist Nationals from 17 countries, and are looking forward to a very successful event at Weymouth & Portland National Sailing Academy." Mark Lyttle, Chairman of IOCA
